304 Stainless Steel Enclosure Applications

View Products

Economical and durable Type 304 stainless steel, with its chromium-nickel content and low carbon, is the most versatile and widely used of the austenitic stainless steels. Its alloys are all modifications of the 18% chromium, 8% nickel austenitic alloy. Type 304 proves to be resistant to oxidation, corrosion, and durability making it an excellent choice in the manufacture of electrical enclosures. It provides ease of fabrication and cleaning, prevention of product contamination, and offers a variety of finishes and appearances. Type 304 stainless steels are used in corrosion resistant electrical enclosures, auto molding and trim, wheel covers, kitchen equipment, hose clamps, exhaust manifolds, stainless hardware, storage tanks, pressure vessels and piping.

Type 304 can be used effectively in indoor and outdoor environments.  This type of stainless steel can be bent and manipulated into a wide array of shapes and sizes.  Its strength does not diminish when this metal alloy is molded and designed into the measurements you need.  The durability and longevity exists regardless.  It can hold up under extreme circumstances making it a common choice for engineers, designers and buyers alike.

304 Stainless Steel Electrical Enclosure Advantages

  • Excellent corrosion resistance and good resistance to intergranular corrosion
  • Excellent hot and cold forming process and performance
  • Good low temperature performance.
  • Excellent for welding

Stainless Steel Selection Guide ASTM-A240

Stainless Steel 304 (S30400):  Low-carbon modification of type 302 for restriction of carbide precipitation during welding. Chemical and food processing equipment; brewing equipment; cryogenic vessels; gutters; downspouts; flashings.

Stainless Steel 304L (S30403): Extra-low-carbon modification of type 304 for further restriction of carbide precipitation during welding. Coal hopper linings; tanks for liquid fertilizer and tomato paste.

Stainless Steel 316 (S31600): Higher corrosion resistance than types 302 and 304; high creep strength. Chemical and pulp handling equipment; photographic equipment; brandy vats; fertilizer parts; ketchup cooking kettles; yeast tubs.

Stainless Steel 316L (S31603): Extra-low-carbon modification of type 316 Welded construction where intergranular carbide precipitation must be avoided. Type 316 application requiring extensive welding.

Stainless Steel 321 (S32100): Stabilized for weldments subject to severe corrosive conditions, and for service from 800 to 1600 F. Aircraft exhaust manifolds; boiler shells;process equipment; expansion joints; cabin heaters; fire walls; flexible couplings, pressure vessels.

Nema Enclosures produces high quality carbon steel electrical enclosures in wall-mount, free standing, floor mount, junction box and trough types. All electrical enclosures are designed and manufactured in compliance with NEMA standards; are UL listed, and/or IP rated.  We can provide passivated stainless steel electrical enclosures whereby the metal has been coated by a protective material, such as metal oxide, to create a shell against corrosion. Passivation is also used to strengthen and preserve the appearance of metals.

Nema Enclosures electrical enclosures adhere to strict Nema Enclosures Quality Standards to ensure product performance and reliability.

Nema Enclosures fabricates quality UL rated electrical and instrument enclosures to your exact specifications and that meet your lead times. We believe that by thinking about your electrical enclosure needs while you’re configuring what goes into it will save you time, money and frustration.  Contact us today to learn how we can expedite custom enclosures and produce cost-effective safety rated standard enclosures to protect you and your equipment.
