Aluminum Electrical Enclosure Applications

View Products

Economical 5052 H32 aluminum enclosures are excellent in a variety of industrial applications such as; solar battery storage, telecommunication cabinets, lift stations, traffic control equipment and water and wastewater treatment applications.

NEMA Enclosures manufactures aluminum electrical enclosures needed to perform well in harsh, high-heat, high-wear environments are generally made of strong and durable aluminum alloys.  Aluminum is lightweight, provides superior corrosion resistance (especially hydrogen sulfide) and high heat dissipation due to its excellent heat conduction characteristics.

Manufacturing Alloys of Aluminum NEMA 4X Enclosures

For the purposes of aluminum enclosure manufacturing, Nema Enclosures specializes in using 5000 series aluminum for sheet material and the 6000 series material for extruded angle and flat bar.

Magnesium is one of the most effective and widely alloying elements in 5000 series aluminum. The 5052 alloy provides good welding characteristics and is resistance to corrosion.

Silicon and magnesium are widely used alloy elements in the 6000 series.  6061 is one of most versatile of these heat-treatable alloys and is a popular choice for extruded angle and flat bar.  We have used 6061 grade aluminum for gland plates because it has a higher tensile strength which means it is more rigid. 5052 is more suitable for forming (bending in a break press) where 6061 will crack along the bend.

5052 Aluminum Enclosure Designations

In addition to the alloy configurations used in aluminum enclosures, various combinations of cold work and heat treating can provide a multitude of mechanical characteristics, or tempers. Aluminum alloys are generally designated by a series number; 1XXX up to 9XXX. There are also basic temper designations; "F" (as fabricated), "O" (annealed), "H" (strain hardened), "W" (solution heat treated), and "T" (thermally treated). There are also subdivisions of "H" temper material; H1, H2, and H3, designating the specific combinations of operations used to produce the alloy.
